Nestled in the southern tip of the Western Ghats, the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, is a stunning blend of mountain scenery, shimmering lakes, waterfalls, and rich wildlife. Spanning over 128 square kilometers, this sanctuary is a haven for nature lovers, photographers, trekkers, and wildlife enthusiasts who wish to explore Kerala’s untamed natural beauty.

With its calm Neyyar Dam, picturesque Agasthyamalai Hills, and diverse ecosystems, Neyyar is one of Kerala’s most captivating yet lesser-known wildlife destinations — a place where tranquility meets adventure.

A Sanctuary Where Nature Thrives

Declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1958, Neyyar lies at the confluence of the Neyyar River, Mullayar River, and Kallar River. Its diverse terrain — from evergreen forests to grasslands — provides a perfect habitat for a wide range of flora and fauna.

The sanctuary is also home to the Agasthyakoodam Peak (1,890 m), one of the highest peaks in Kerala and part of the Agasthya Biosphere Reserve, known for its rare medicinal plants and unique biodiversity.
