The scenic drive takes you through beautiful Himalayan landscapes and mountain valleys. Begin your Thimphu sightseeing tour with a visit to Tashichho Dzong, an impressive fortress-monastery and an important center of Bhutan's government and religious administration. Continue to the Memorial Chorten, one of Thimphu's most prominent landmarks and a popular place of worship for residents. DAY 2: THIMPHU – PUNAKHA 75 km | Approx. 3 Hrs |
After Breakfast, check out and begin your scenic journey from Thimphu to Punakha. Stop at Semtokha Dzong, one of Bhutan's oldest dzongs, before continuing towards the spectacular Dochula Pass, located at approximately 3,100 meters above sea level. At Dochula Pass, admire the famous 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens and, weather permitting, enjoy panoramic views of the snow-covered Himalayan mountains. Continue downhill into the warmer and greener Punakha Valley. Visit Chhimi Lhakhang, also known as the Fertility Temple, associated with the legendary Buddhist saint Drukpa Kunley. Proceed to Punakha Dzong, one of Bhutan's most beautiful and historically significant fortresses, dramatically situated at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers.
