Day 1 – Dec 20: Arrive at Trichy → Travel to Thanjavur (1 Hr) (D)
Upon arrival at Trichy Airport, begin your South Indian journey by traveling to the historic town of Thanjavur, located about 1.5 hours away by road. Once in Thanjavur, immerse yourself in the grandeur of the Brihadeeswarar Temple (Periya Kovil), an architectural masterpiece of the Chola dynasty. Follow this with a visit to the Thanjavur Palace and Art Museum, which showcases ancient artifacts and royal history. Enjoy a peaceful overnight stay in Thanjavur.
Day 2 – Dec 21: Thanjavur → Nalumavadi (via Tuticorin) (B, D)
After breakfast at 8 am, we set off for Nalumavadi village, a serene destination located near Tuticorin, approximately 130 kilometers away, and it takes about 3.5 hours to reach by road. Spend your day exploring the peaceful countryside, visiting local churches, and enjoying time near the coastal beach areas. This rural stretch of Tamil Nadu offers a refreshing break from city life. Your overnight stay will be in Nalumavadi, surrounded by calm and simplicity.
Day 3 – Dec 22: Nalumavadi → Velankanni (B, D)
After breakfast at 8 am, begin your journey to Velankanni, a renowned Christian pilgrimage site located approximately 140 kilometers from Nalumavadi, which is around 3.5 hours by road. Upon arrival, pay your respects at the Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health, which attracts millions of devotees each year. You can also unwind at Velankanni beach, which adds peaceful coastal charm to this holy town. Spend the night in Velankanni.
Day 4 – Dec 23: Velankanni → Varkala (Kerala) (B)
After breakfast at 8 am, prepare for a longer travel day as you journey from Velankanni to Varkala in Kerala, covering approximately 430 kilometers, typically taking around 9 hours by road. As you cross into Kerala, you’ll notice a change in landscape. En route, visit the Jatayu Earth Centre – the most enormous stone sculpture of the bird Jatayu, a giant eagle from the epic Ramayana. Overnight stay in Varkala cliff beach.
Day 5 – Dec 24: Varkala → Alleppey (B, L, D)
After breakfast at 8 am, proceed to Alleppey and check in at the Alleppey Houseboat to ride over the tranquil backwaters. Tour the scenic backwaters while relaxing and enjoying the scenery as the boat passes through emerald-green paddy fields, vibrant natural landscapes, and rustic villages. In the evening, at 5:30 pm, the boat will halt at a designated safe place, as per government regulations. Dinner is served on board. Overnight stay at the houseboat.
Day 6 – Dec 25: Alleppey → Christmas Mass in Champakulam (B, D)
After breakfast at 8 am, wake up early to attend Christmas Mass at St. Mary’s Forane Church in Champakulam, one of the oldest and most beautiful Syrian Catholic churches in Kerala, celebrated for its heritage and spirit. Following that, travel to Nedumudy, a serene backwater village perfect for shikara or canoe rides. Explore narrow canals, observe local farming practices, and enjoy the tranquil greenery. It’s an ideal spot for a quiet rural Kerala experience.
Day 7 – Dec 26: Alleppey → Thekkady (B, D)
After breakfast at 8:00 a.m., drive to Thekkady, a captivating destination in the Idukki district renowned for its lush forests, wildlife sanctuaries, and spice plantations. Enjoy panoramic views of nature with occasional waterfalls and streams throughout the journey. The highlight is Periyar National Park, a renowned wildlife sanctuary that surrounds Periyar Lake, Elephant Junction, and Kalari Centre (at your own expense). In the evening, enjoy a Kathakali show from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, then check in at your hotel for dinner.
Day 8 – Dec 27: Thekkady → Munnar (B, D)
After breakfast at 8 am, proceed to Munnar, located in the Western Ghats of Kerala. This breathtaking hill station is known for its lush tea plantations, mist-covered mountains, and serene landscapes. Enjoy visits to Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls, a spice garden, and a live chocolate factory, along with time at a handloom shop.
Day 9 – Dec 28: Munnar Local Sightseeing (B, D)
After breakfast at 8 am, embark on a full-day sightseeing tour of Munnar. Explore Eravikulam National Park (home to Anamudi Peak and waterfalls), visit the Rose Garden, and explore the Mattupetty Dam (Kundale Lake), Echo Point, and scenic spots within tea plantations. In the evening, attend a Kathakali show from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM, and then enjoy a buffet dinner at your hotel in Munnar.
Day 10 – Dec 29: Munnar → Kochi (B, D)
After breakfast at 8 am, embark on your journey to Kochi, the cultural and commercial hub of Kerala, located around 125 kilometers away, with a travel time of about 4.5 hours. Enjoy brief halts at tea plantations and picturesque waterfalls along the way. Once in Kochi, check into your hotel and prepare for the local exploration the next day. Overnight stay in Kochi.
Day 11 – Dec 30: Kochi Local Sightseeing (B, D)
After breakfast at 8 am, check out and proceed to explore Kochi, visiting the iconic Chinese Fishing Nets, Dutch Palace, spice markets, antique shops, and vibrant bazaars. Roam through the lively shops and cafés in Jew Town. Overnight stay in Kochi. Visit Edappally Church, one of the oldest churches in India.
Day 12 – Dec 31: Departure from Kochi (B, D)
After breakfast at 8 am, enjoy leisure time at the hotel. After some shopping, check out and transfer to Kochi International Airport for your departure.
