5 Days 4 Nights Yamunotri-Gangotri Yatra Tour Package
Day 01: Haridwar - Barkot (210kms/7-8hr) HT : 1352 MTS.
Pickup from Haridwar / Dehradun Airport. Drive to Barkot via Mussoorie, with an en-route visit to Kempty Fall (it's suggested to have lunch here, as a few good restaurants are available before Barkot). Later, continue directly to Barkot and transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to relax and recharge for the Pahad (hill) Yatra to Yamunotri the following day. Overnight stay at Barkot.
Barkot is renowned for its scenic beauty, situated at the confluence of the Yamuna and Tons rivers. At over 4,000 ft elevation, you’ll find apple orchards surrounded by the majestic Himalayan range, offering panoramic views of the snow-capped Bandar Poonch mountains. Barkot serves as a vital stopover en route to Yamunotri and Gangotri, part of the four Char Dham pilgrimages.
Weather: Generally pleasant in summer, with temperatures ranging from 25-30°C. In winter, days are pleasantly cool while nights drop to 5-10°C.
Day 02: Barkot - Yamunotri - Barkot {36kms drive & 6kms Trek (one side)} HT : 3291 MTS.
Early morning, drive to Jankichatti/Phoolchatti, and begin the trek to Yamunotri (6kms), which can be done on foot, horseback, or by Doli at your own cost. The trek showcases lush valleys filled with conifers, rhododendrons, cacti, and various Himalayan shrubs.
Upon arrival at Yamunotri, you can cook rice wrapped in cloth and dip it into the hot water of the kund, taking it home as "Prasad." Here, you can offer "Pooja" to Divya Shila and take a bath in the warm waters of Jamunabai Kund before having "Darshan" of the sacred "Yamunaji," and then return to Jankichatti. Return back to Barkot for an overnight stay.
Yamunotri is the westernmost shrine of the Char Dhams and is dominated by Banderpunch (6,361 m). It is the source of the river Yamuna, which is linked to Surya, the Sun. The actual source is Champasar Glacier, located about 1 km ahead of the shrine, at an altitude of 4,321 m.
Yamunotri Temple: Built in the 19th Century by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur, it has undergone destruction and reconstruction in the past century.
Surya Kund: Home to thermal springs that flow into various pools, the most notable being Surya Kund.
Divya Shila: A revered rock pillar worshipped prior to entering the Yamunotri Temple.
Weather: Summer temperatures range from 10-18°C, with pleasantly cool days and cold nights.
Day 03: Barkot - Uttarkashi (90kms/4hr) HT :1352 MTS.
Drive to Uttarkashi, visiting Vishwanath Temple and others. Check into your hotel. Respend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay.
Uttarkashi is known for its ashrams and temples and is home to the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering. The town is situated on the Ganges and is located near Varun Parvat, at the confluence of the Varuna and Asi rivers, featuring a ghat (Manikarnika Ghat) and a dedicated temple (Kashi Vishwanath Temple) at its center.Vishwanath Temple: One of the oldest Shiva temples in Northern India, reconstructed in 1857, it features a significant iron trident and a complex with several shrines devoted to various deities.
Shakti Temple: Located in front of Vishwanath Temple, it boasts a large trident, reputedly thrown by Goddess Durga at demons.
Day 04: Uttarkashi - Gangotri - Uttarkashi (100kms/3-4hrs each side) HT : 3048 MTS.
Early morning drive to Gangotri, stopping at Gangnani for a holy dip in Garam Kund, and then continuing through the beautiful Harsil Valley, known for stunning landscapes featuring Deodar trees and mountain vistas. Upon arrival at Shree Gangotri, take a holy dip in the Ganges (Bhagirathi) at its origin, perform Pooja and Darshan, and relax in the serene ambience before returning to Uttarkashi. Overnight stay at Uttarkashi.
Gangotri Temple: Constructed by Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa in the 18th Century, it is located along the banks of the Bhagirathi. Submerged Shivling: A natural rock Shivling submerged in the river, where, according to myth, Lord Shiva received the Ganges. Kedar Ganga Sangam: Located around 100 yards from the temple, this river meets the Bhagirathi.
Day 05: Uttarkashi – Rishikesh - Haridwar (190kms/5-6hr)
Drive to Rishikesh, a celebrated spiritual town on the bank of the Ganges, surrounded by the Shivalik range. It is said that after the penance of Raibhya Rishi, God appeared as "Hrishikesh," leading to the town's name. Explore Rishikesh's temples and sights – Laxman Jhulla, Ram Jhulla, Triveni Ghat, Bharat Mandir, and Shivananda Ashram. Later, transfer to Haridwar Railway Station / Dehradun Airport. Tour concludes.
